We were pleased to see 3 of our wines rated as Outstanding & Highly Recommended – with excellent reviews in the Decanter Magazine – these are real stars:
Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (Organic) Marlborough, New Zealand – 95 points: Outstanding
First up is Zephyr Sauvignon Blanc 2020 which featured in “NZ Sauvignon Blanc: 20 Top Buys from 2020” in the April edition of Decanter Magazine. It was rated as “Outstanding” with 95 points. It is made by Ben Glover who now heads up his family-run vineyards in the renowned Marlborough sub region of Dillons Point, just 3 kilometres from the sea at Cloudy Bay.
It is an enigmatic and restrained kiwi Sauvignon Blanc with layered and complex flavours. There is a lovely flinty, mineral quality about this wine and we would recommend serving it at 10 – 12C to appreciate its full range of flavours and textures. A must-try Sauvignon Blanc.
“Floral, mineral, complex bouquet of peach blossom, apple, herbs and stony almost silty minerals. A satin texture is contrasted by crisp acidity and a core of melon, white peach and gooseberry fruit. Enticing with a lick of sea salt, mineral and blossoms on the finish. Delicious and complete. Organic. Drink 2021 – 2026” Decanter Panel published April 2021
This wine normally retails £14.99 – £16.99 – check out our competitive price £12.99
Altolandon Mil Historias Bobal 2019 (Organic) DO Manchuela, Spain – 91 points: Highly Recommended
Second, is Mil Historias Bobal 2019 which featured in a Decanter Panel Tasting of Bobal. This wine has long been a favourite of ours and the new 2019 vintage is just ready for drinking, the earthiness is reducing and the excellent cherry, raspberry fruit is coming to the fore. It combines freshness and richness; it is complex and structured. It was rated as “Highly Recommended” with 91 points.
“Vivid aromas of yuzu and prune. Bright, zesty fruits give way to a pronounced earthiness, with a peppery kick of watercress at the end. Fresh and juicy, with firm, smooth tannins.” Decanter Panel published April 2021.
This wine is produced by Manolo Garrote and his wife Roselia Molina in one of the highest altitude vineyards in Spain at 1100 metres. They focus on sustainable growing of grapes and in the making of wines. As well as farming organically they vinify their wines as naturally as possible using native yeasts, ageing in French oak and clay amphorae to obtain the optimum flavours and freshness. In the production process they use very low sulphites.
We also sell their excellent Mil Historias Malbec 2019 (organic) which is a terrific example of this grape; a delicious full, savoury and complex wine which becomes a firm favourite, once people have tried it. We would strongly recommend trying both of these organic wines.
Mil Historias Bobal normally retails at £12.99 – £14.95. From 1 May it will be on offer at £9.99 down from our usual price of £11.15
Care Garnacha Nativa Blanca 2019 DO Cariñena, Spain – 90 points; Highly Recommended
Our third wine to receive a great review featured in “Spain’s Indigenous Whites” in the May 2021 edition of Decanter Magazine. It was rated as “Highly Recommended” with 90 points. Care Garnacha Blanca Nativa 2019 is made by family-run Bodegas Añadas in Aragon.
It has intense aromas of greengage and orange peel, coupled with tropical fruit which follows through to full flavours and an outstanding balance between freshness and structure. There is an almost imperceptible touch of oak as it has spent just 2 months in barrel, giving this wine structure without taking away any freshness. One of our most popular wines, introduced to the wine list at Bush Vines in 2020.
“Floral. Fresh green apple, salty with a touch of white pepper on finish. Oak [is minimal but important and] adds structure and interest. Bright and youthful with lovely balance. Drink 2021 – 2023” Decanter Panel published May 2021.
This wine normally retails £9.99 – £11.95; pleased to say we sell for £9.99
