Tasting Notes

Duas Osgas (two geckos) is named after the friendly faces often seen around the vineyard! It is a great new find from Portugal. A terrific blend of indigenous varieties of Aragonez, Castelão and Trincadeiro. Deep ruby in colour it has attractive, fresh aromas of red and brambly fruits coupled with spice which welcome you to an elegant blackberry, raspberry palate with soft dark plum notes and gentle spice. It has a rounded texture, smooth tannins, a pleasing freshness and good length.

How the wine is made

The grapes for this wine are harvested at dawn and fermented in stainless steel and then aged in stainless steel to retain the freshness of the wine.

About the Producer

Cas’Amaro are an organic producer, who make artisanal wines across their five agricultural estates in the following Portuguese wine regions. Vinho Verde, Douro, Dão, Alentejo and Lisboa cultivating a total of 62ha across these estates. They aquired Herdade Monte do Castelete in the Alentejo and are in final stages of producing certified organic wines from this region. Their first and main site is in the Lisboa region around 60 kilometres from Lisbon. They work with a minimal intervention approach, in order to develop and encourage biodiverse local ecosystems and work entirely with indigenous grape varieties.

They are also very keen on art and architecture and all their eye-catching labels, like this one, demonstrate this!

About the Region

The Alentejo is located in the South East of Portugal, South of the Tejo and covers around a third of Portugal’s land area. This warm, dry wine area is described by Jancis Robinson MW as “dynamic and good value.”    The region is named for its position south of the Tejo river, which cuts through Portugal, entering the ocean near Lisbon.  The vines providing the grapes for this wine are planted in mostly granite soils with pockets of schist and clay-limestone. The climate is Mediterranean and this is the region famed for its Cork Oaks; naturally this wine has a cork closure!
