Dominio de Punctum – organic & biodynamic wines from Spain

Dominio de Punctum organic and biodynamic wines need to be discovered for their purity of fruit and consistent high quality. This is a selection of White, Rosé and an oak-aged Red from a family-run estate at 800 metres near Las Pedroñeras in La Mancha (around half way between Valencia and Madrid). These wines really are stunning value, and even more so in this Special Offer Case!

Domino de Punctum organic and biodynamic estate is led by Jesus Fernandez,  who, together with his sisters Ruth (wine-maker) and Cristina (Biodynamic viticulture & Finance Director!) have developed their parents’ vineyards into an organic and biodynamic Estate and Winery. It is an ideal place to grow quality vines naturally. They do not use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides on the soil, or chemicals in the winery, and all their wines have organic status.  Biodynamic is a step further; they gained this added status in 2011.  They harvest the grapes at night and their work in the vineyards coupled with careful winemaking produces some brilliant quality, brilliant value wines. All these wines are suitable for vegans and wine lovers seeking lower sulphite wines.

Do biodynamic wines taste better for the price – yes, we believe they do! Both the Viognier and Rosado in this case have finesse at fantastic value. Viognier 2022 (2 bottles)

100% Viognier: 13% abv

This attractive, full-flavoured dry white wine has aromatic, intense, fresh peach aromas along with tropical fruit, floral and lime hints. The palate is packed with intense peach, nectarine and tropical fruit flavours. It is a textured, dry white with full flavours and a nice, refreshing citrus finish.  This is a fresh, lightly rounded Viognier with a zesty, long finish and good balance. If you are fan of Picpoul de Pinet, you should try this Viognier which has a similar flavour spectrum.

You could drink it on its own with nibbles and it is a perfect partner to a wide range of foods like shellfish, chicken or pork dishes. It goes particularly well with Asian food from light Indian curries to Thai cuisine and Tagines and vegetarian dishes with sweet root vegetables.

Rosado 2022 (2 bottles)

50% Garnacha; 50% Bobal:  13% abv

An attractive, pale, blush Rosé with intense aromas of strawberries, raspberries and hints of watermelon. It has strawberry fruit with raspberries and blueberries in the background. This is a fresh, dry, fruity and smooth Rosé with excellent balance. Although very pale in colour it has terrific, full flavours and an excellent prolonged taste.

This is a consistently delicious Rosé that knocks socks off many (more expensive) Provence Rosés. Dominio de Punctum Rosado will hit the spot where other Rosés do not tread!

You could drink this on its own, and it will partner a wide range of foods from fish, chicken to spicy dishes and salads. It is also perfect to drink all-the-year-round with fish or vegetarian dishes.

Graciano/Cabernet Sauvignon Roble 2019 (2 bottles)

Made from a blend of Spanish indigenous Graciano with the international grape of Cabernet Sauvignon (a 50/50 blend) this red has striking aromas of deep, dark cherry and blackcurrant, laced with a touch of leather, almonds and vanilla oak. This is followed by intense, cherry and black-fruit flavours and almond hints. The Graciano grape gives this wine the predominant cherry, almond flavours and the Cabernet provides black fruits and great structure.

Dominio de Punctum Roble is a stylish, appealing, medium-bodied yet rich red which is ready to drink now and will continue to develop; drinking well into 2023/24. It has excellent depth of flavours, very good balancing acidity and length. This interesting blend is showing complexity and integrated tannins from its twelve months in American oak barrels. This is something different from Spain and well worth discovering.
