Tasting Notes

Chapel Down Rosé Reserve has an enticing pale pink colour. The Pinot Noir really shines out in this elegant English Sparkling wine; it’s one of the most elegant pink fizzes we’ve tasted. Delicate aromas of strawberries, cherries and redcurrants with background notes of toasty shortbread these lead into a crisp, fresh palate of light red fruits. It has a fine creamy mousse which contributes to the light and effortless style and beautiful balance of this pink fizz which is the equal of many (and more expensive) champagnes.

This Rosé fizz is now a vintage wine and a real stunning English Sparkling Rosé made from mostly Pinot Noir and deserving of winning 3 Silver medals. The reviews sum up this lovely 2020 vintage Rosé:

Reviews

“Elegant red fruit profile with herbs as a backdrop and firm, crunchy acidity. A nice refined long finish.  92 Points, Decanter World Wine Awards 2023”

“Creamy undertones and a pure nose and palate. Offers hedgerow blossoms and pear. Very harmonious and integrated. A new classic. 93 Points,  International Wine Challenge (IWC) 2023”

How the wine is made

Chapel Down Rosé Reserve is made by the champagne method, which involves significant work from the vinification as a still wine, first a cool fermentation in stainless steel, followed by a partial malolactic fermentation. It is then matured on its lees in tank for six months, before bottling. The next stage is a secondary fermentation in bottle and bottle age of a further 18 months on its lees, before disgorgement. in the traditional, Champagne method.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from vineyards in Kent and Sussex planted on chalk and clay soils, providing top quality grapes which ultimately result in a Fizz with great balance and purity of character.
