Tasting Notes

Albourne Estate White Pinot Noir is the still version of their wonderful Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine – a white wine made from red grapes!

It has a delightful pale onion-skin hue. The aromas are intense and forward with notes of white peach.  In the mouth, the wine is smooth and exceptionally well balanced with subtle raspberry and peach flavours. It has a lovely texture, complexity and a long, fresh finish.

About the Wine

Albourne Estate White Pinot Noir is made from grapes from a burgundy clone Pinot Noir which is a difficult grape to grow, but produces stunning quality when England gets a good growing season. It has some Ortega grapes in the blend; both varietals are whole bunch pressed. This distinctive dry white is definitely worth discovering with a lot of taste and length for 11% abv.

Sells in a few independent wine merchants for £18.95; check out our competitive price of £16.50.

About the producer

Albourne Estate has just under 11 hectares (30 acres) in gently rolling hills, near Hassocks in West Sussex, with stunning views to the Devils Dyke. The vineyards were planted in 2010 when Alison Nightingale (co-owner) finally found the site she had been looking for which ticked all the boxes to provide excellent drainage, low frost risk and maximum sun exposure, critical factors in achieving successful vine growth and grape ripeness at this northerly latitude. 2013 was their first vintage.

The striking labels feature wildlife that are regularly seen in the Albourne Estate and are painted by a local artist. This wine features a common blue butterfly. We also stock Albourne Estate Bacchus which features a stunning Buzzard, Albourne Estate Selection with a Green Woodpecker, and Albourne Sandstone Ridge a dandelion, on their respective labels.

Food match: Terrific aperitif and equally good with Crab, mushrooms, mackerel, fish pate, calamari or cheeses – a wide range of dishes.
