Tarima Rosado from Bodegas Volver is a pale, but full-flavoured, dry Rosé made from Monastrell grape. It has attractive and appealing aromas with cherry fruit, herbs and a touch of crystaline fruit on the nose. This is followed by refreshing, cherry fruit flavours which belie its pale colour and relatively low abv at 12.5%. Tarima Rosado has good structure and length with a lightly rounded finish, which makes it a great food Rosé.
Monastrell is the same grape as the Mourvedre which makes full flavoured reds. Here, it makes a deliciously flavoured Rosado which is equally fruity and elegant. It is similar in style to a Rhone Rosé, and it is excellent with a wide range of dishes and dare we say it a BBQ! This Rosé will make people sit up; it is well worth discovering.
Bodegas Volver was founded in 2004 by Rafael Cañizares, whose family has been growing grapes for 4 generations. The family vineyards are around 40 years old and consist of indigenous varieties which are all cultivated in a sustainable way with minimal intervention. Now Rafael’s daughter is studying viticulture and oenology and has already created her own wines under the supervision of her father. Bodegas Volver also produce an excellent value organic and delicious Verdejo, Paso a Paso.
This wine is made from grapes in the 185 hectares of vineyards between 650 – 750 metres in the Sierras de Salinas, Sierras de Umbria and Sierras de la Sima where the stony, limestone soils encourage the vines to put their roots down and the results are grapes bursting with flavour. The grapes are harvested by hand. This area is renowned for its limestone; the largest marble quarry in Europe is located near the vineyards.
Food match: Good as an aperitif and an excellent match with vegetarian, fish, chicken dishes. Perfect with Tapas.
