Tasting Notes

Paso a Paso Verdejo 2017 is a great example of the lovely indigenous Verdejo grape of Spain, at a very reasonable price. If you are interested in a more refined Verdejo you could also try Prado Rey Verdejo; why not try both!

Attractive tropical fruit aromas with hints of lime and aromatic herbs, lead you into melon and stone fruit flavours with a touch of citrus. It has a good balance of fruit and acidity and good length. This dry white wine is made from the lovely Verdejo grape, cultivated in Bodegas Volver vineyards in La Mancha at 650 – 700 metres. Grapes for this wine were hand-harvested from 34 year old vines; these mature vines provide full flavours.

“Paso a Paso” meaning “step by step” in English, defines the careful attention this wine receives at every stage of development, and it joins our growing list of organic wines.

Bodegas Volver was founded in 2004 by Rafael Cañizares, whose family has been growing grapes for 4 generations. The family vineyards are 30 – 90 years olds and consist of indigenous varieties which are all cultivated in a sustainable way with minimal intervention. Now Rafael’s daughter is studying viticulture and enology and has already created her own wines under the supervision of her father.

The 2017 growing season was characterised by a large range of temperatures through the growing season and a typically very hot spell in August. However, low rainfall and cooler nights together with sustainable, organic vineyard management, picking in the night hours and finally delicate pressing and winemaking, have achieved a wine with good balance of fruit and acidity.

Food match: Good with full flavoured fish and shell fish, especially crab and prawns. It will also partner chicken, oriental dishes and salads. Great on its own!
