Luis Cañas Barrel Fermented Blanco is a beautifully balanced, refined white Rioja. It has toasty aromas with citrus hints which lead into a honeyed roundness of flavours coupled with lemony freshness. It has a beautiful structure and elegance which is achieved by ageing the wine in barrel on its lees for four months. What makes this wine special is the combination of mature vine Viura and Malvasia grapes and the meticulous work in the vineyards and in the winery of this family producer.
Throughout the year the vines are tended and pruned to increase ventilation which promotes healthy grapes. The grapes are hand-picked grapes from 60 year-old low yielding vines and are then taken to the Bodega in small boxes, once there they are hand-selected so that only the best fruit goes into the fermentation process. It spends 17 days fermenting in new French and American barriques, before 4 months ageing on its lees in oak.
