Tasting Notes

Forrest Estate Pinot Noir is consistently excellent from vintage to vintage, and the 2012 is no exception with refined aromas of ripe blackberry and cherry fruit coupled with hints of raspberries and spicy oak. This Pinot Noir has a lovely texture with concentrated fruit flavours of dark red berry fruit and hints of liquorice, dark fruit cake and plums. These combine with a nice balance of acidity and well integrated, smooth tannins, providing a complex, spicy and savoury aftertaste.

Made from hand-picked grapes from Wairau, Brancott, Northbank and Awatere districts and aged for 10 months in French oak barrels (20% new French oak). Only 2.500 cases of this wine are made.

The 2012 vintage will be drinking through to 2019/20. A terrific wine with a range of dishes, it is light enough to be a treat Summer wine as it goes well with chicken and light meals but it is equally at home with duck, port and lamb and at Christmas with a Turkey!

Doctors John and Brigid Forrest are well respected viticulturists and winemakers and are very much a family-run, hands-on producers of premium, quality wines from Marlborough, New Zealand. They left their careers of molecular biology and medicine behind returning to Marlborough in 1988 to establish their first vineyards in Renwick, at the heart of the stony Wairau River Valley. Over the years, they have won many Trophies including the NZ Winemaker of the Year.

“Rich Fruit tinged with cocoa and lavender, this wine is poised and cheerful. It has a slightly earthy nose underneath the pretty aromatics, with delicate cranberries and cherries on a sweet-savoury palate, then hints of coffee on the finish.”  2013 Vintage. Decanter: Highly Recommended: September 2016

2012  “This is a fresh, concentrated and sweetly rich Pinot Noir with flavours of ripe, dark raspberry fruit and fine structure. Elegantly proportioned.” 18.5/20: 5 Stars: Raymond Chan Wine Reviews NZ

For less than half the price of a comparable Burgundy, Forrest Pinot Noir offers a great alternative. Bush Vines, as always, is competitively priced for this wine.

Food match: Brilliant with Duck, Game, Pork and Turkey; it will also be good with Free Range Chicken and Lamb
