Tasting Notes

Dominio de Punctum Viognier comes with a new label this year and a Gold Medal. This is the 2018 vintage of the same wine as our very popular Lagasca Viognier of last year. The aromas simply jump out the glass. It has exotic peach and apricot aromas with slightly nutty and floral notes. The palate is packed with intense peach, nectarine and tropical fruit flavours with a light citrus uplift which balances the full, complex flavours with a touch of freshness.

It is easy to see how this wine won a Gold Medal in Challenge Millesime Bio 2019. It has a smooth, very long, refreshingly dry and lightly rounded finish. Dominio de Punctum Viognier is a classic and a delicious find from a family-run organic estate in the heart of La Mancha. If you haven’t tried this you should.

This wine is made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes in the 150 hectare single-estate vineyards at 750 metres near Las Pedroñeras, (around half way between Valenica and Madrid). The viognier grapes are night-harvested to retain their freshness.

After 8 generations as growers, in 2005 a new generation of the Fernandez family led by Jesus and his sister (and wine-maker) Ruth founded the organic Estate and Winery. With a continental climate and sandy, loam soil rich in limestone it is an ideal place to grow quality vines naturally. Dominio de Punctum do not use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides on the soil, or chemicals in the winery, and all their wines have organic status.  Biodynamic is a step further; they gained this added status in 2011.

Food match: Terrific aperitif; a very versatile wine which will be excellent with shellfish, Asian and vegetarian dishes.
