Tasting Notes

Dominio de Punctum Tempranillo Roble has appealing aromas of pure blackcurrant and cherry fruit with hints of spice and vanilla oak; intense flavours of juicy black fruit follow on from the aromas, coupled with well-judged vanilla oak and a touch of pepper and spice. Made from organic and biodynamically grown grapes, this is a stylish, characterful, savoury red wine with good structure and firm tannins. it has a lovely balance and very good length.

Dominio de Punctum Tempranillo Roble 2020 is just ready now (mid June) and will continue to develop over the Summer. After fermentation in stainless steel, it is aged for six months in American oak barrels and gently filtered to keep all its natural aromas and characteristics. Like most Spanish wines, it is particularly good with a wide variety of food and especially roasts, grills and full-flavoured vegetarian dishes.

What stands out in all the Dominio de Punctum wines is their full fruit flavours. This wine leans towards a Rioja and offers excellent value and should be drinking well through to the end of 2022.

About Dominio de Punctum

This wine is made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes in the 200 hectare single-estate vineyards at 800 metres near Las Pedroñeras, (around half way between Valencia and Madrid). The grapes are night-harvested to retain their freshness.

After 8 generations as growers, in 2005 a new generation of the Fernandez family led by Jesus and his sister (and wine-maker) Ruth founded the organic Estate and Winery, together with their sister Cristina (who organised their move to biodynamic farming and is the Finance Director). With a continental climate and clay, loam soil rich in limestone it is an ideal place to grow quality vines naturally. Dominio de Punctum do not use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides on the soil, or chemicals in the winery, and all their wines have organic status.  Biodynamic is a step further, working with the natural rhythms of nature in a way which creates greater sustainability of the soils and the land for the longer term. They gained this added status in 2011.
