Dominio de Punctum Roble 2015 is an appealing blend of Tempranillo and Petit Verdot made from organic grapes, using biodynamic practices. The 2015 vintage shows intense and creamy blackcurrant aromas laced with a touch of cedary oak. This is followed by attractive and fresh blackcurrant and cherry fruit flavours with cinnamon spice coupled with a smooth, almost creamy texture and lovely mouth feel. This is a a terrific blend, showing some complexity and well integrated tannins from its six months in oak barrels. A stylish, appealing, medium-bodied wine with excellent length; a star vintage in all respects.
This leans towards a soft claret in style, whilst retaining Spanish characteristics and is one of our universally popular red wines. We were not surprised to see that this wine won a Gold Medal at the Challenge Millesime Bio 2018 (an International Organic Wine Competition). We note that this wine is priced at 12 Euros in Spain! It is excellent value from us!.
This wine is made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes in the 150 hectare single-estate vineyards at 750 metres near Las Pedroñeras, (around half way between Valenica and Madrid). The grapes are night-harvested to retain their freshness.
After 8 generations as growers, in 2005 a new generation of the Fernandez family led by Jesus and his sister (and wine-maker) Ruth founded the organic Estate and Winery. With a continental climate and sandy, loam soil rich in limestone it is an ideal place to grow quality vines naturally. Dominio de Punctum do not use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides on the soil, or chemicals in the winery, and all their wines have organic status. Biodynamic is a step further, working with the natural rhythms of nature in a way which creates greater sustainability of the soils and the land for the longer term. They gained this added status in 2011.
