Dominio de Punctum Graciano/Cabernet Sauvignon Roble from this outstanding organic and biodynamic Estate, joined our portfolio last year. It has striking aromas of deep, dark cherry and blackcurrant, laced with a touch of leather, almonds and vanilla oak. This is followed by intense, cherry and black-fruit flavours with almond hints. The Graciano grape gives this wine the predominant cherry, almond flavours and the Cabernet Sauvignon provides black fruits and great structure,
Dominio de Punctum Graciano/Cabernet Sauvignon Roble is a stylish, appealing, medium-bodied yet rich red which is ready to drink now and will continue to develop. It has excellent depth of flavours, very good balancing acidity and length. This wine is excellent value and will continue to develop and should be drinking well through to Autumn 2023.
An interesting blend, showing complexity and integrated tannins from its twelve months in American oak barrels. This is something different from Spain; a marriage of the difficult to grow indigenous Graciano grape, which is found in top Rioja wines, with the international Cabernet Sauvignon grape.
We are thrilled to have found this consistently good organic and biodynamic family producer. Do organic and biodynamic wines taste better for the price? Yes, we believe they do! About Dominio de Punctum
This wine is made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes in the 200 hectare single-estate vineyards at 800 metres near Las Pedroñeras, (around half way between Valencia and Madrid). The grapes are night-harvested to retain their freshness.
After 8 generations as growers, in 2005 a new generation of the Fernandez family led by Jesus and his sister (and wine-maker) Ruth founded the organic Estate and Winery, together with their sister Cristina (who organised their move to biodynamic farming and is the Finance Director).
With a continental climate and clay, loam soil rich in limestone it is an ideal place to grow quality vines naturally. Dominio de Punctum do not use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides on the soil, or chemicals in the winery, and all their wines have organic status. Biodynamic is a step further, working with the natural rhythms of nature in a way which creates greater sustainability of the soils and the land for the longer term. They gained this added status in 2011.
