Care Garnacha Nativa has fresh, powerful aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant fruits with spice, mocha and date hints. There is an abundance of ripe black fruit, spice and date flavours with almond, liquorice and toasty oak hints. This is a fresh, elegant and complex red with soft, ripe tannins and a well balanced fruity structure. There are also hints of dark cherries and coffee beans and it has excellent length and depth of flavours; all in all Care Garnacha Nativa is a really atractive, smooth and enigmatic red wine at this price level. It is a very good example of why Garnacha deserves more attention as a serious grape, when it is grown well in the right place.
The grapes for this wine come from some of Bodegas Añadas older vines of more than 40 years old on the slopes of Sierra de Alairén. It has had 8 months ageing in American oak barriques which has provided some spice, body and roundness.
About Bodegas Añadas
Bodegas Añadas is owned by the Lázaros and Diáz families, who have 150 hectares and a purpose built winery located between Aguaron and Cariñena, about 50 kilometres SW of Zaragoza in Aragon, Spain. The climate is continental/mediterranean with low rainfall. Their vineyards are located in 4 different parcels between 500 and 900 metres. Bodegas Añadas decided to give the name Care (pronounced Karey) to their wines.
Care, is the name used by the Romans to refer to the nearby town of Cariñena, which gives its name to the oldest Denominación Origen (DO) in Aragon. It also refers to the English word care. Bodegas Añadas combines traditional vine growing skills with modern technology in wine making and huge care is taken at all stages from night harvesting through to the production of wines. There is also link to the Spanish for Face “Cara” as Nacho Lázaro says their wines show the modern face of Cariñena; their stylish labels use artwork from Enrique Torrijos.
