Barton Chenin Blanc 2015 Walker Bay (1 bottle)

Dry, full-flavoured Chenin Blanc from the exceptional 2015 vintage, with a zingy palate of pears together with tinges of apricot and guava, finished off with a lime finish and good length. This wine is made by hand-picked grapes in Barton’s vineyards in the Botriver area on the cooler south slopes of the Kogelberg HIlls, which are cooled by Atlantic breezes from Walker Bay. After fermentation, the wine is left on the lees for 4 months before racking and bottling. Chenin Blanc is a grape which ages particularly gracefully, and this is an excellent example which is still drinking well. It is a good food wine with great length.

Fresh pears and peaches with hints of citrus and butterscotch aromas. Peach and pear flavours mingle with light buttery notes and zingy mineral flavours, providing a clean, long finish. This is an unoaked chardonnay which derives its excellent flavours from extended lees contact (around 5 – 6 months with weekly stirring!). Full flavours and close to a fresh Chablis in character.
De Wetshof is one of the few 3rd generation wine estates in South Africa. A family-run winery, Daniel de Wet is assisted by Johann (viticulture) and Peter (winemaking). They produce consistently high quality wines, especially chardonnays. A superb dinner party wine.
Iona Sauvignon Blanc 2018 Elgin (1 bottle)

Akin to a Pouilly Fumê in style, this appealing Sauvignon has an aromatic nose with fine mineral notes with gooseberry and grapefruit aromas. The palate is so well balanced and elegant, with classic Sauvignon Blanc flavours of grapefruit and light gooseberry fruit and a long, flinty yet smooth finish. A wonderfully textured Sauvignon from cool climate Elgin with winemaker Werner Muller’s magic touch of a small amount of Semillon and a little barrel fermentation.

Extreme Vineyards Bonfire Hill Red 2016 Western Cape (1 bottle)
An intriguing blend of grapes from Extreme Vineyards produces the rich and juicy Bonfire HIll Red. Spicy plums and blackcurrant aromas lead you into bags of blackcurrant, ripe plum and raspberry fruit with a touch of maraschino cherry and spice. This is a rich and opulent red, with well integrated ripe and slightly creamy tannins which make for a very approachable, well-balanced wine with great length. It displays a touch of toasty oak from its 11 months in mostly French oak barrels. This wine is made by Trizanne Barnard, a highly respected winemaker who produces her own TSW range.

Smoky blackberries and hints of leather aromas draw you in to savour the succulent, spicy black fruit flavours coupled with firm structure and length; a very moreish, fresh and full-bodied at the same time!
This is a terrific example of Cabernet Franc with a tiny addition of Malbec. The result is a like a succulent Loire or even a Bordeaux red, that is stylish, rich but elegant and above all approachable, with a nice balance of fruit and integrated tannins. Bruwer Raats just loves the underated Cabernet Franc grape, and has made it his mission to bring out the best from his 18 – 25 year-old-vines grown in dolomite granite soils of Stellenbosch. The grapes for this wine are hand-picked and hand-selected.
Trizanne Signature Wine (TSW) Syrah 2015 Swartland (1 bottle)

TSW (Trizanne Signature Wines) Syrah is a refined, poised and complex wine. The inviting aromas of ripe and fresh blackcurrants and red berries, coupled with spice, black pepper and hints of cardamom are just the start. The palate is elegant, smooth and enigmatic. There is abundant blackcurrant and red fruit which is laced in fine grained tannins. The flavours keep building in the mouth, providing a lovely concentration and complexity without being heavy. This is a very refined and delicious Syrah which is similar to a top-end Rhone style wine. It is perfectly balanced with excellent length.
