Cerro Añon Crianza has a very inviting blackberry/blackcurrant nose with hints of spice and vanilla. It is classic Rioja with a warm, moreish and elegant palate showing blackcurrants, plums and lighter hints of strawberries, herbs and mocha on the finish. The 2015 vintage of this Crianza is sporting a new label, but the contents are just as good, if not better than earlier vintages. This is a consistent Rioja Crianza year on year and achieves high points for a wine at this price level.
It is made from grapes from 20 year old vines in the Rioja Alta and Alavesa areas and aged for 14 months in American oak. This Crianza always offers fantastic value and the 2015 vintage is very good. We were pleased to see that it was selected in the Top 100 Riojas UK 2017 and to read what Tim Atkin MW said in his Special Rioja Report 2018.
Top 100 Riojas UK 2017 Panel comments:
“Very classic. Supple oak and tannin, juicy and fruity bramble and red berry fruit. Herbal, spicy and long.”

Tim Atkin MW: Rioja Special Report 2018:
“The Cerro Añón range is made to age for longer in bottle and that’s certainly the case on this youthful Crianza from vineyards in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. A good proportion of Graciano and Mazuelo add freshness and backbone to the Tempranillo here. Drinking 2019-25: 91 points
