THIS WINE IS OUT OF STOCK; AWAITING NEW VINTAGE
Barton Estate Merlot 2012 has a smoky, mocha nose with creamy blackberry, cherry and liquorice hints. This is a big, succulent merlot with a rich palate of plums, blackberries and strawberries with well developed tannins.
Deliciously smooth, savoury and quite complex, it has great length and is another excellent full-bodied wine from the Barton Estate, and a consistent IWSC Silver medal winner, year on year.
The label features the Blue Crane, an endangered species, which has found a home in the family-run Barton Estate in the hills behind Walker Bay. Barton’s vineyards are at 34 degrees south near Botriver Valley on the cooler slopes of the Kogelberg Hills around 11 miles from Walker Bay. Sea breezes and the local hills help to provide a frost-free and moderately cool climate during the all important setting and ripening period.
